Morning everyone, I hope you've all had time to recover from the heartbreak of Thursday night. There's definitely some pride to be taken from the way some of the team stood up to be counted. That really has to be at the back of the teams mind today.
We travel to Tannadice today for a fixture we delight in dropping points in. Thankfully Diomande and Nsiala should be restored to the line up. Hagi should return to the team in place of Ridvan on the left too.
I think the presence of those 3 give us a bit more balance. But our biggest selection headache is on the right hand side of midfield. We've heard nothing since Vaclav Cerny limped off the Old Trafford pitch on Thursday. But given he was holding his hamstring, I'd be surprised to see him start today.
So what are our options? Ross McCausland is the obvious choice, keeps everyone else in their positions and adds a right sided midfielder. Zack Lovelace could come in on the left and shift Hagi to the right. Similarly Findlay Curtis could come in given the promising signs he's shown.
Given Clements risk averse approach I'd expect McCausland to get the nod. And given our record in away games you can't blame him really. Although he is largely responsible for that record.
We triumphed 1-0 in this fixture earlier in the season. In the first half we passed up quite a few gilt edged chances and in the second we ended up hanging on. 3 points in that game was better than the 2 dropped in the 1-1 draw at Ibrox against the Arabs. That second game was truly a terrible performance, saved by some individual brilliance from Danilo and Cerny.
There's no doubt that United come into this game with alot of momentum. They've leapfrogged Aberdeen into third and will want to stay there. However, Aberdeen have already lost yesterday and Hibs drew. So I wonder if this game will be seen as slightly less important in their eyes. A bit of a free hit.
Given the way we play away from home I don't imagine this fixture holds any fear for the Terrors anyway. Or any other team in the league at this point. It's easier to find teams we haven't dropped points away too, than ones that we have.
The last game we played at Tannadice was also one of our first glimpses of Hamza Igamane. Who came off the bench and dazzled with some brilliant takes and turns. Who knew he'd be coming into this game as our most valuable player just a few months later?
Enjoy the game, and safe travels, there's still some weather warnings around.
